Fundamentals:
Since this is a dress for you to attend “somebody’s” wedding party, you can anticipate all the girls and bridesmaids will be “armed” to show their best.
Rule No. 1 - You want to be stood out,
Rule No. 2 – You don’t want to overcast the bride cos she is the focus of the night, right?
So the selection should be based on these two fundamentals. Otherwise you will either be just one of the many in that evening or you will lose a bunch of your friends because you look sharper than the bride (and the rest).
Color:
If white is the color for this summer – stay away from white (see Rule No.1). Check out the theme color of that evening and try to pick a color that will blend to the evening.
e.g. Theme color = cream, try pale yellow or light yellow, if the theme color is pink, try light pale peach……something that “stands” and match….blend but not totally blended.
Length:
Check the program, if dancing is part of the rundown and you want to be invited for dance, stay away from those long, lengthy evening gowns. (That is for the bride or more matured guests who do not have the quality to show the legs). I will also stay away from mini-skirts too, cos it is too casual and considered not respectful to the host. Knee high or ¾ will be my recommendation. Elegant and looks good when doing waltz, swing, or evening cha cha and disco.
Style:
Hot summer time is the opportunity to show a little: collar bone sometimes outperform the other body parts and could be even more attractive yet remains elegant under the spot lights, so deep-V Vs thin strips or off-shoulder with cap sleeves…..the answer is straight forward, unless you feel good talking to the guys will their heads down somewhere…..If you want to add some style, fit and flare or pleats both works well when doing dancing turns. With some laces add-on, it will never go wrong for a fun evenings.
Fabric:
Time to shine – rayon, satin, chiffon or even silk will looks good under the flash lights (in accenting order, based on your budget). Thin and light is the key.
I guess you should have an idea by now what guys are looking for – There is more than one way to dress sexy but stays elegant. Have fun!
